IntroductionDo you have an interest in protecting, securing, and working at a military installation without being in the military? If so, the State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring two Military Affairs Security Officers (Armed Security Officer). These positions are located at the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison.
This recruitment may also be used to fill upcoming vacancies in the next six months at JFHQ or Truax Air Base, which is located adjacent to JFHQ and the Dane County Airport.

The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. During emergencies, no single organization can handle the response. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most.

The Armed Security Officer provides armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, theft, vandalism, and other hazards; controls entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and other equipment at entry points to the National Guard Facility or Base. The Armed Security Officer assists and directs visitors; enforces parking regulations; ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws;
prepares and maintains records and documents; monitors base alarm systems; and attends training and safety classes.
New hires currently start at $25.38 per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms. This starting wage consists of a base pay of $23.38 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add‑on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.
For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I‑9.
