Construction Electrician – CW (Construction Worker) Position
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Must be physically capable of performing the work of the trade with or without reasonable accommodation; must successfully pass a drug screen test before placement in the field
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation to get to the construction site and between jobs
- Obtain and maintain a State of WI Registered Electrician License; initial fee $35.00, renew annually with a $35 fee
- Complete a minimum of 24 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) annually for license renewal; verify courses qualify for WI State Electrical CEU’s for your license type
- Work for an electrical contractor on various construction projects
- Purchase your own hand tools (list provided)
- Join Local Union #159; one-time initiation fee and quarterly dues required after hire
- Apply for a Registered Electrician License after hire (cost $35.00)
- License type:
Registered Electrician; renew annually based on original issue date
- Commercial – Office buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping centers
- Industrial – Small machine shops, metal press and stamping, food and medicine production
- Bending conduit, pulling wire and cable, lighting fixture installation
- Digging trenches for cable or conduit, installing Romex or B.X.
- Wiring and setting of service switch gear, mounting and wiring transformers, reading blueprints
- Construction stages: open walls, no windows, unsealed roof
- Weather: heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, dampness
- Cleanliness: mud, dust, debris, water
- Noise: tools, equipment, manufacturing lines
- Heavy lifting: large conduit, large cable, cartons of material
- Above the ground work: ladders, scaffolding, power lifts; requires comfort with heights
- Consistently work in a 4‑county area (Dane, Columbia, Iowa, Sauk)
- May be asked to work in other southern Wisconsin counties (Dodge, Green Lake, Marquette)
CW classification and wages are based on on‑job experience.
