Respawn is looking for a Lead Tools Engineer who is passionate about developing world-class tools for Apex Legends, our flagship game! You will have the chance to improve/optimize, develop new features and lead a team of engineers to support our asset compiler/packaging tools.
Note, we are only considering candidates who are willing to work hybrid onsite from our Vancouver, BC, or Los Angeles offices.
Reporting To a Senior Technical Lead, You Will- Lead a team of accomplished software engineers focusing on the core features of asset compiler/packaging tools for Apex Legends.
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of tools for asset compilation and packaging in the game engine pipeline.
- Develop architecture and design solutions for problems within the tools.
- Collaborate with build, rendering, and content teams to streamline end-to-end asset processing.
- Analyze and optimize asset packaging workflows for efficiency and reliability.
- Build bridges with other partners to work towards the common tools/game engine vision.
- Track bugs, enhancement requests, and technical debt for tools used in the pipeline.
- Plan and prioritize tool development tasks in alignment with project schedules and content team needs.
- Design and implement automated testing and continuous integration for tool reliability.
- Excellent C++ skills
- 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams in the games industry
- 8+ years of experience having worked on and shipped large game projects
- You enjoy being a subject matter expert and the 'go-to' person for internal customers
- Familiarity with custom asset packaging and compiling for a game engine
- Well versed in software engineering principles
- Familiarity with an existing game engine and understanding of editor concepts
The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
PAYRANGES
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) $138,700 - $199,900 CAD
- California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. San Francisco) $160,600 - $249,300 USD
In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
