As part of the Inyanga Marine Energy Group, the company is leading the engineering, manufacture and commercial deployment of Hydro Wing—a next-generation tidal stream energy technology designed to deliver predictable, low-carbon electricity at commercial scale.

Hydro Wing is being developed for the 30 MW Morlais Project off Anglesey, one of Europe's largest consented tidal energy developments and a flagship project helping establish tidal stream energy as a mainstream renewable technology.

Supporting Hydro Wing is Inyanga Maritime's specialist marine operations capability, delivering offshore surveys, installation, cable laying, foundations, operations & maintenance, vessel charter and marine project management across the offshore renewable energy sector.

Description and Main Purpose of the Job

The Project Hydrographic Surveyor will provide technical leadership and project management for hydrographic, geophysical and geotechnical survey activities supporting the Hydro Wing programme, the 30 MW Morlais Project and third-party offshore renewable energy projects.

This hybrid office and offshore role combines technical survey expertise with project management responsibilities. The successful candidate will oversee survey planning, contractor management, offshore execution, data quality assurance and client liaison while acting as Inyanga's representative during offshore operations.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, vessel crews and survey contractors, the role will ensure offshore survey programmes are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Survey Project Management

  • Manage hydrographic survey work packages from tender through to final deliverables.
  • Develop survey scopes of work and technical specifications.
  • Prepare survey methodologies and execution plans.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets and survey resources.
  • Coordinate multiple survey campaigns simultaneously.

Offshore Operations

  • Supervise survey contractors and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate vessel operations.
  • Monitor offshore survey progress.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Support marine operations associated with Hydro Wing deployments.

Survey Coordination

  • Oversee bathymetric, geophysical and geotechnical surveys.
  • Coordinate UXO surveys, cable route surveys and installation support surveys.
  • Support pre- and post-installation surveys.
  • Support construction and O&M activities.

Technical Assurance

  • Review survey procedures and specifications.
  • Review survey reports and deliverables.
  • Manage GIS and survey data.
  • Provide technical advice to engineering and project teams.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with clients and survey contractors.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Coordinate with engineers and marine operations teams.
  • Support commercial proposals and tender submissions.

Experience and Skill Level Requirements

  • Degree in Hydrography, Oceanography, Geomatics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years' experience managing offshore survey projects.
  • Strong understanding of hydrographic and geophysical survey techniques.
  • Experience with offshore renewable energy or offshore construction projects.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience supervising offshore operations.
  • Category A or B Hydrographic Surveyor.
  • Chartered status or working towards professional registration.
  • Experience with QINSy, EIVA, Hypack or similar software.
  • GIS experience.
  • UXO survey knowledge.
  • GWO and offshore survival certification.
