Lead and manage the Referral & Assessment Team, ensuring effective screening, decision-making, and allocation of incoming referrals in line with safeguarding thresholds. Oversee the delivery of timely, high-quality statutory assessments (e.g. Section 17/47), ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and local procedures. Provide strong leadership, supervision, and support to social workers, including case direction, performance management, and professional development. Maintain oversight of complex and high-risk cases, ensuring appropriate safeguarding actions and plans are implemented.
Monitor team performance against key targets (timescales, caseloads, quality standards), driving continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners (police, health, education) to ensure coordinated responses to safeguarding concerns. Ensure robust risk assessment and decision-making processes, escalating concerns where necessary. Contribute to audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes to maintain high practice standards. Prepare reports and provide updates to senior leadership on performance, risks, and service delivery.
Promote a culture of reflective practice, accountability, and child/adult-centred outcomes. Requirements of this role:
Must be a Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England. Must have a Social Work qualification (Diploma in social work, social work degree or equivalent) Must have minimum of 3 years’ Post Qualifying Experience
