The Finance Manager will help promote good practice within the finance team, ensuring finance staff follow agreed internal processes and procedures, while identifying opportunities and contributing to the overall commercial direction of the business. A key focus is maintaining and developing accounting controls and financial discipline, including the development of systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the group's finances while maintaining tight cash control.
Key Areas of Responsibility To develop and maintain a system of sound, efficient and effective internal financial controls, avoiding material cost or cash risk exposure, ensuring that all the group's transactions are properly recorded and that the group's accounts give a true and fair view of its financial position. To supervise, have knowledge of and be capable of carrying out the following accounting tasks, including but not restricted to:
Production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts in line with reporting timetables. Playing a key role in managing the general ledger and conducting regular balance sheet reconciliations and reviews to maintain accurate financial records. Effective management of the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring capitalisation to policy. Management of the completion of key control account reconciliations in an accurate and timely manner.
Posting of the monthly payroll journal and associated intercompany and group management charges, including maintaining and reconciling all related payroll control accounts. Management of VAT returns and reconciliations and all other taxation and compliance related matters as instructed. Ensuring the completeness and integrity of the sales ledger, invoicing, payment terms, credit limits and query resolution. Monitoring and driving relevant business KPIs, including supporting the production of operational data tables and graphs for board slides.
Preparation of year end statutory accounts, audit files and tax packs. Liaising with auditors, tax advisors and HMRC. Ensuring compliance with group policies and practices. Working as part of the company wide management team, contributing towards the company meeting its overall strategy and objectives Qualifications and Skills Full accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA). Strong knowledge of GAAP. Advanced Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of Sage 200 and CRM systems preferred. General level of IT competency, including Microsoft PowerPoint. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting. Team management experience preferred.
