Job Summary

The Design Engineer II plays a critical role in driving innovation and executing the product development strategy for the Client. This position is responsible for leading key phases of the design lifecycle — including ideation, prototyping, validation, and production handoff — to transform new product ideas into commercially viable solutions. The role directly supports the Client’s long-term product roadmap and collaborates across departments to ensure new and existing products are informed by consumer insights, material research, cost analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and gather consumer insights to inform new product concepts
  • Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, drafts, and conceptual imagery
  • Create and support product documentation, procedures, and revision histories for both new and legacy products
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements including cost targets, production volume, and performance/aesthetic criteria
  • Lead specific handoff activities between Innovation & Development (I+D) and Production, including:
    • Internal transitions to Client Manufacturing
    • Transitions to external manufacturing partners
    • Part development for external suppliers
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to develop and validate test procedures and product performance criteria
  • Ensure structural integrity and manufacturing optimization during design of new products
  • Review and iterate prototypes to ensure design intent is maintained throughout development
  • Evaluate legacy products to identify improvement, optimization, and cost reduction opportunities
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering during quality control and pilot production to ensure product integrity
  • Assist in the creation of Work Instructions and coordinate handoff from I+D to Production
  • Collaborate with Marketing on development of Assembly Instructions and customer-facing materials
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Production personnel to understand product functionality and recommend improvements
  • Work alongside Purchasing/Supply Chain to provide accurate specifications to external vendors
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related technical field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in 2D drafting, 3D CAD, and FEA — Solid Works preferred
  • Proven ability to carry concepts through to final manufacturing execution
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience developing mechanical components
  • Effective project management abilities
  • Self-directed, collaborative problem solver with a positive, team-oriented mindset
