Quality Engineering, Electronics Technician, Manufacturing Engineer
Talent Acquisition Specialist at SIMCO Electronics Position Overview
The Calibration Technician C is responsible for performing calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE), with a primary emphasis on temperature, pressure/vacuum, timing, and dimensional-related measurements. The role applies principles of measurement science, physics, electronics, and metrology to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance with applicable standards.
This position is embedded on-site at a medical device manufacturing customer (Stryker Orthopedics) and operates as a trusted extension of the customer’s Quality and Operations teams. The technician must work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound technical judgment, strong attention to detail, and professionalism in a highly regulated environment.
The Calibration Technician C receives little to no instruction on routine work and is expected to prioritize assignments, resolve moderately complex technical issues, and make routine recommendations within established procedures, quality systems, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties- Perform calibration of IM&TE across a mixed-discipline workload, primarily supporting:
- Temperature calibration via simulation, liquid baths, environmental chambers, incubators, and temperature/humidity/dew/frost point systems
- Pressure and vacuum measurement devices, including gauges and pressure transducers
- Time and frequency–related devices, including timers and tachometers
- Dimensional and mechanical inspection equipment, including air gages, optical comparators, thickness gages, height gages, laser micrometers, and surface roughness testers
- Mass and force-related equipment, including balances and scales
- Execute calibrations using approved procedures, manufacturer specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality system documentation
- Maintain primary, secondary, and working standards in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540, and SIMCO quality requirements
- Perform adjustment, troubleshooting, and limited repair of precision measurement equipment as required
- Collect, analyze, and accurately document calibration data, ensuring completeness, traceability, and audit readiness
- Identify out-of-tolerance (OOT) conditions and take appropriate corrective actions, including adjustment, correction factors, equipment quarantine, component replacement, and escalation for Quality review when required
- Support OOT investigations by providing technical input, historical calibration data, and documentation to Quality and Engineering teams
- Prepare accurate calibration reports and certificates in accordance with SIMCO and customer documentation standards
- Maintain accurate asset records within customer calibration management systems (e.g., CERDAAC or equivalent), including asset status, location, and lifecycle information
- Adapt existing calibration equipment, standards, and techniques to accomplish unique measurements tasks for which they are not principally used
- Interact professionally with customer Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality personnel in a customer-facing environment
- Train and mentor junior technicians on calibration techniques, documentation practices, and customer expectations as assigned
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready laboratory and work area
- Support internal and external audits, assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three years of calibration experience some of which can be offset with formal metrology training
- Ability to perform general math and algebra; working knowledge of basic statistics
- Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540)
- Intermediate ability to troubleshoot repair, align and optimize precision equipment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and customer-facing communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; comfortable working in electronic calibration management systems
