Purpose: We are looking for an experienced Estimator with a minimum of 5 years in construction project estimation, specifically within the solar energy sector. The successful candidate will bring a solid foundation in both civil and electrical disciplines and will be instrumental in supporting our Operations and Development teams. This role centers on delivering precise cost estimates for solar installations and managing late-stage development efforts that drive projects toward successful contract execution.
Reports To: Vice President of Engineering
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for solar PV projects, including civil works (site grading, foundations) and electrical systems (wiring, interconnection).
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and technical documents to develop accurate takeoffs.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers for solar-specific components.
- Maintain historical cost data and develop benchmarking tools for solar projects.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to define scope and schedule.
- Support proposal development and assist in pricing strategies for EPC contracts.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for solar installations.
- Provide cost analysis and variance reports post-project completion.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, permitting, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Act as liaison between development and construction teams during project handoff.
Experience &
Education:
- 5-7 years of combined experience in solar energy development and construction.
- Strong civil and electrical background with hands‑on experience in PV systems.
- Preferred certifications: NABCEP, PMP, Master Electrician.
- Familiarity with EPC estimating processes for solar projects.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Con Est) and solar-specific tools.
- In-depth knowledge of PV system design, civil site work, and electrical interconnection.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Project, and Procore.
- OSHA 30-hour certification.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Willingness to travel for site assessments and project meetings.
Preferred
Skills:
- Technical training in PV systems; NABCEP certification strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with PVSyst and financial modeling tools like Energy Toolbase.
- Understanding of solar project finance and underwriting principles.
- Field experience with solar site assessments and interconnection studies.
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and screen time.
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Core Development Group office located in Mahwah, NJ, with a five-day workweek.
