Assistant Finance Controller – Retail/Wholesale - Mahwah NJ - Up to $135,000

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Finance Controller to own and manage the AR cycle for high-volume, complex retail and wholesale accounts. You’ll oversee invoicing, dispute resolution, and cash collections for major retailers, drive process improvements, and partner with Sales to optimise financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage full-cycle AR for large retail/wholesale accounts (Amazon, Walmart, Costco, Target, etc.)
• Monitor customer portals (Retail Link, Amazon Vendor Central) for invoice status, disputes, and chargebacks
• Oversee accurate invoicing, including EDI-related billing workflows
• Analyse DSO, and customer-specific payment trends; drive strategies to improve cash flow
• Reconcile subledger to general ledger; ensure proper cutoffs and compliance
• Lead monthly AR close tasks, reconciliations, reserves, and reporting
• Support audits and compliance initiatives
• Guide and mentor junior AR/billing specialists

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA-track preferred)
• 5+ years accounting experience, 3+ years focused on AR in CPG/retail/wholesale
• Direct experience managing AR for large retail accounts (Amazon Vendor Central, Walmart Retail Link, Costco, etc.)
• Strong understanding of chargebacks, deductions, trade promotions, and retail compliance
• Familiarity with EDI transactions and billing systems
• Proficient in ERP systems (Net Suite, SAP, Oracle); strong Excel skills
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred:

• Experience in high-growth, high-volume environments with frequent deductions
• Familiarity with retailer compliance portals and dispute resolution workflows
• Proven track record of improving KPIs (DSO, disputes, cash flow)
