Job Description & How to Apply Below
Nu Image Medical is hiring an AI Engineer (founding member) to help open its new NJ office and build production AI agent workflows in an in-person role in the Mahwah/Wyckoff area.
Responsibilities- Own AI engineering and hands-on code development end to end.
- Review diffs from agents running in parallel on branches
; push back on bad code and write the tricky parts yourself. - Work with the CTO on architecture and priorities, then turn decisions into shipped code
. - Own the code agents generate by reading every line
, debugging by hand, and fixing production issues when agents get it wrong. - Handle production breakages directly rather than relying on what 'the agent wrote'.
- Investigate weird bugs using logs
, queries
, and a debugger to find root causes. - Find and resolve issues nobody asked for, such as slow queries
, flaky jobs
, or tools that could save hours. - Communicate outcomes: show what shipped
, what broke
, and what you want to try next. - Build a modern web platform and internal tools that people actually enjoy using.
- Build integrations and automation to connect systems and reduce busywork.
- Develop AI-powered workflows including agent setups,
guardrails
, and review steps that enable a small core to build faster. - Build secure, reliable, well-tested systems with healthcare-grade privacy and security baked in from day one.
- Take initiative: identify problems, build improvements, and deliver fixes.
- Ability to ship with AI coding agents daily, including Cursor and the Grok ecosystem (including Grok Bot
), plus similar tools. - Stay current with modern AI tooling and rapid changes month to month.
- Build real agent workflows
: task breakdown, parallel agents, prompt and agent orchestration, and review loops to catch bad output before release. - Verify agent output using tests first
, reading diffs line by line, and not trusting output that only 'looks right'. - Protect sensitive data (customer information, secrets, credentials) by keeping it out of prompts, logs, and tools not approved for it.
- Comfort debugging and building without AI when needed: read unfamiliar code, step through it, and fix by hand.
- Strong software architecture instincts: explain design choices and recognize when an agent’s approach will hurt later.
- Strong PHP and Laravel experience: queues, jobs, scheduler, events, and Eloquent without N+1 issues.
- Strong SQL skills with MySQL
: schema design, indexing, migrations, reading query plans, and writing queries yourself. - Hands‑on debugging: logs, stack traces,
Xdebug or similar
, reproducing issues, and root‑cause analysis. - Security and privacy best practices: authentication and authorization, input validation, encryption, least privilege, OWASP Top Risks, and secrets handling.
- Commute to the Mahwah / Wyckoff area and prefer in‑office work.
- Cursor, Grok, Grok Bot
- PHP, Laravel, Vue, Tailwind
- MySQL, Xdebug
- REST APIs, Redis
- AWS
- Pest, PHPUnit
- Git Hub Actions
- Laravel Nova, Filament
- AWS CDK, Terraform, Pulumi
- OWASP Top Risks
- Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform, AWS CDK, Pulumi, or similar).
- Observability background (structured logs, metrics, tracing, alerts).
- Experience building MCP servers, agent tools, or custom agent integrations.
- Prompt and agent eval experience.
- Experience with Laravel Horizon, Octane, Pulse, or Reverb.
- Advanced threat modeling and secrets management beyond the basics.
- Open‑source work, side projects, or talks at meetups.
- A modern web platform and internal tools that people actually enjoy using.
- Integrations and automation that connect systems and reduce busywork.
- AI-powered workflows, including agent setups, guardrails, and review steps.
- Secure, reliable, well‑tested systems with healthcare‑grade privacy and security.
- Location: Mahwah, NJ 07430 (onsite)
- Salary: USD 75, per year
- Schedule style: Agents running in parallel while you review diffs, push back on bad code, and write the tricky parts yourself
- Health insurance
- Paid time off (PTO)
- US telehealth company founded in 2004 and online since 2008.
- LegitScript certified and serving all 50 states.
