Location: Maidenhead, with 2 days a week in the office, 3 from home

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £30,740 per annum

Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week, Mon – Fri

What you'll be doing

Help us to ensure the appropriate commemoration of Commonwealth war casualties by joining the Commemorations Department - a dedicated team of researchers who are responsible for who, how and where these individuals are commemorated. As a Policy Officer you will manage casework and support the correct application of Commemorations policy. Using your historical research skills, you'll investigate individual cases of Commonwealth war casualties and make recommendations regarding the appropriate implementation of policy.

You will work with teams across the organisation to advise on policy-related issues and will also support various stakeholders (including Member Governments and relevant service authorities) to deliver meaningful results and uphold our commitment to remembrance.

What you need to have
  • A degree or relevant professional qualification
  • Comprehensive understanding of 20th-century history and, preferably, military terminology
  • Proven experience in using historical and/or genealogical sources to produce detailed and accurate reports
  • Excellent research and analytical skills to interpret complex information and draw informed conclusions
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Familiarity with archival or collections databases
  • Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Office applications
