Part-Time Bookkeeper / Administrator
Location: Maidstone, Kent
Hours: 20 hours per week (flexible working pattern available)
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension
Overview
A well-established Maidstone-based accountancy practice is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Administrator to join their team on a part-time basis. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract
, with the potential to be extended, and would suit an experienced bookkeeping professional looking for flexibility while playing a key role in supporting a varied client portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients
- Process day-to-day bookkeeping including:
- Sales and purchase ledger
- Bank reconciliations
- Petty cash reconciliation
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts
- Liaise with clients to resolve queries and collect financial information
- Process payroll (if experience held - desirable but not essential)
- Maintain and update accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Quick Books, Sage)
- Assist senior accountants with year-end accounts preparation
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and deadlines
- Support general administrative duties within the practice
Person Specification
Essential:
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role (ideally within a practice environment)
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage or Quick Books
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
- Good communication skills and client-facing experience
Desirable:
- AAT qualified or part-qualified (or equivalent)
- Experience working within an accountancy practice
- Payroll experience
