Build your commercial career with one of the UK’s largest and most successful house builders.

PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join an established South East commercial team, based from its Maidstone office.

This is an opportunity to take commercial responsibility for major residential developments comprising hundreds of homes, delivered over several years. You will gain exposure to the scale, complexity and phased delivery of substantial house building projects, managing their financial performance as developments progress.

For an intermediate-level Quantity Surveyor with a strong housing developer background, this offers the opportunity to broaden your experience within a major national business and contribute to significant, long-term residential schemes.

The role

You will be responsible for the commercial and financial management of allocated sites, applying effective cost controls and producing accurate reports that allow senior management to assess each development’s position.

Working closely with construction, technical and commercial colleagues, you will monitor budgets, identify risks and support the successful delivery of new homes across multiple phases.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing budgets, cost controls and financial reporting for allocated developments.

  • Preparing cost forecasts and reports, highlighting variances, risks and opportunities.

  • Managing subcontractor enquiries, procurement and commercial negotiations.

  • Assessing valuations, payments and variations, and agreeing final accounts.

  • Monitoring expenditure against budgets and addressing potential cost overruns.

  • Working with site teams to assess progress and resolve commercial issues.

  • Maintaining accurate commercial records throughout the development lifecycle.

About you

You must demonstrate more than five years’ quantity surveying experience gained directly with a housing developer.

You will understand the commercial demands of house building and be confident managing site costs, subcontractor accounts and financial reporting.

Strong numerical ability, attention to detail and sound commercial judgement are essential, alongside good organisational skills and the confidence to communicate with subcontractors, site teams and senior management.

Experience working on large, phased residential developments would be particularly relevant.

Why join?

This role offers the opportunity to work for a leading national house builder on substantial developments with multi-year build programmes
. You will develop your experience of managing costs across successive phases, building working relationships with delivery teams and seeing the commercial impact of your decisions over time.

The remuneration package includes:

  • Salary of up to £70,000 per annum
    , depending on experience.

  • Car allowance.

  • Bonus.

  • Pension.
