About the RoleIn this role, you will take full responsibility for planning and delivering high-quality Mathematics lessons to Key Stage 4 classes, ensuring all students are prepared for success at GCSE level. You will contribute to curriculum development, assessment strategies, and interventions that raise attainment and progress. Working closely with colleagues, you will help maintain the school’s strong academic reputation and positive learning culture.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, differentiated Mathematics lessons to Key Stage 4 classes in line with the GCSE curriculum.
- Use a range of teaching strategies and resources to support students of varying abilities, including those with additional needs and high prior attainment.
- Set, mark and assess classwork, homework and assessments, providing clear feedback to support student progress.
- Track and monitor student performance using data, implementing targeted interventions where necessary to improve outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work, assessments and departmental resources for GCSE Mathematics.
- Maintain a positive, orderly classroom environment that supports effective learning and high standards of behaviour.
- Communicate regularly with parents/carers, tutors and pastoral staff regarding student progress, behaviour and support needs.
- Participate in departmental and whole-school meetings, CPD activities and school events as required.
- Strong subject knowledge of GCSE Mathematics and the Key Stage 4 curriculum.
- Proven experience teaching Mathematics at Key Stage 4 within a UK school setting (placements considered for exceptional ECTs).
- Demonstrable ability to plan and deliver lessons that secure good progress for a wide range of learners.
- Confident classroom management skills with a consistent, fair approach to behaviour.
- Ability to use assessment data to inform planning and personalise learning.
- Clear, confident communication skills with students, colleagues and parents/carers.
- Commitment to safeguarding, student welfare and promoting high expectations.
- Experience teaching across other key stages (e.g. Key Stage 3 or post-16) within a state school environment.
- Involvement in intervention programmes or booster classes for GCSE Mathematics.
- Familiarity with supporting students preparing for higher-tier GCSE Maths and further study.
- Experience contributing to departmental improvement initiatives in a school with a strong Ofsted profile.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification (required).
- Degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject (required).
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in Mathematics education or pedagogy (preferred).
- Eligibility to work in the UK and meet all safer recruitment and DBS requirements (required).
