About the role
As a Governor (Teaching & Learning), you will play astrategic, non‑executive role in shaping the educational direction andlong‑term success of the College. Working collectively with fellow Governors and the executive team, you will provide constructive support and challenge to ensure that the College delivers high‑quality education and training that meets the needs of learners, employers and the wider community.
A key aspect of the role is contributing to the development,scrutiny and monitoring of teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring that educational quality, learner outcomes and curriculum relevance remain at theheart of the College’s mission. Governors help set the strategic priorities,agree measurable performance targets and monitor progress against them,intervening where necessary to address underperformance or emerging risks.
The role also involves engaging with the College through
Governor visits, participation in committees and informed discussion of reports and evidence, while maintaining a clear distinction between strategic oversight and day‑to‑day operational management. Governors act as ambassadors and advocates for the College and uphold the highest standards of public service, integrity and accountability.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking people who bring experience, insight and commitment to education, particularly in one or more of the following areas:
- Teaching, learning and assessment – with the ability to scrutinise educational performance, learner experience and outcomes.
- Education policy and system reform –understanding the national FE and skills landscape and its impact on curriculum, funding and accountability.
- Quality assurance and improvement – experience of using data, inspection frameworks, or quality processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Curriculum development and relevance – insight into curriculum design that responds to learner needs, employer demand andfuture skills.
It would be beneficial if you have experience of, or prior exposure to, a non-executive board and can recognise the key differentiatorsbetween strategic oversight and operational delivery. You should also have knowledge of corporate governance and how fundamental it is to anorganisation’s success and sustainability.
