IPS Group are working with a leading insurer within the UK commercial market, to appoint an experienced Motor Underwriter to join its well-established London-based trading team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist commercial division focused on Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate business, managing and developing an existing portfolio of commercial fleet business, delivering profitable underwriting results while building strong broker relationships and driving portfolio performance.
The Role- Profitably underwrite and manage an existing commercial fleet portfolio within delegated authority levels.
- Assess fleet risks, review policy coverage and determine appropriate pricing and terms.
- Utilise underwriting tools, appetite guides and technical expertise to support sound decision-making.
- Develop strong relationships with brokers through regular engagement and market presence.
- Negotiate effectively to secure profitable outcomes while meeting customer needs.
- Manage larger and more complex cases, providing technical underwriting solutions.
- Monitor account performance, retention rates and loss ratios.
- Identify and address underperforming accounts through targeted action plans.
- Collaborate with internal underwriting and technical teams to deliver best-in‑class service.
The ideal person for this opportunity will have experience Underwriting Commercial Fleet Business with strong technical knowledge across the Commercial Insurance market.
A few more ideals to have are:- Excellent trading and negotiation skills with a commercial mindset.
- Experience developing and maintaining successful broker relationships.
- Strong analytical and numerical capabilities with the ability to assess risk and portfolio performance.
- Cert CII or Dip CII qualifications would be advantageous but not essential.
