Job Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will help deliver the build, assembly, modification, and upkeep of hire fleet equipment and build-to-buy systems. Reporting to the Project Engineer – Production, the role combines workshop-based mechanical work, equipment integration, testing, and quality checks.
The successful candidate will be practical and organised, with hands-on experience of pumps, pipework, skids, fabricated parts, and mechanical systems.
Key Duties- Build, fit, modify, and test mechanical equipment including pumps, valves, pipework, frames, and skids.
- Work from engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specified build requirements.
- Refurbish and adapt existing hire equipment where required.
- Carry out mechanical inspections, fit-up, alignment, and quality checks.
- Work with the workshop team to complete builds safely and to schedule.
- Prepare equipment and systems for FATs and functional testing.
- Check supplier components and packages against required standards and specifications.
- Support the integration of externally manufactured mechanical assemblies.
- Highlight manufacturing problems, defects, and potential design improvements.
- Keep workshop tools and equipment in good condition and maintain a safe workplace.
- Complete build documentation, inspection records, and mechanical test sheets.
- Follow company safety, RAMS, and quality procedures.
- Assist with producing accurate as-built mechanical information.
- Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting, or a related background.
- Practical experience with pumps, pipework, flanges, seals, fabrication, or similar mechanical systems.
- Ability to understand engineering drawings, including P&IDs and general arrangements.
- Confident using mechanical tools and workshop equipment.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the water or wastewater sector.
- Full UK driving licence
