Our Skilled Baker rate of pay starts from £13.38 an hour; this increases to £14.59 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too and would still love to hear from you.
The table shows the periods of time in the week we’d like you to be available to work – the availability windows. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you’ll have three weeks’ notice of exactly when your shifts will be. We are happy to support flexibility for our colleagues, therefore if the times you’re available to work match closely but not exactly to the times we are advertising, we’d still love to hear from you.

It takes lots of different people to run a store and this is a job for doers, with plenty of variety. It’s a committed role, full of everyday challenges, but that’s one of the things that makes it so exciting.
Responsibilities- Serve shoppers, providing friendly and efficient service.
- Bake in waves for scratch products, ensuring fresh products throughout the day while minimising waste.
- Handle products with care to maintain quality.
- Adhere to all food hygiene, safety and allergen guidelines.
- Apply training and ensure safe, efficient operation of equipment, including performing safe‑check procedures and reporting any issues to the Shift Leader or Team Manager.
- Dispose of waste responsibly, following food waste and recycling routines.
- Understand store performance and contribute to improving service and sales, reducing waste and shrink, and driving profit.
- Work across the store in service, picking and replenishment areas where required.
- Maintain a welcoming environment, living the Tesco values and making everyone feel welcome.
- Build rapport with customers, ensuring they leave the store with a great shopping experience.
- Communicate openly with teammates and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Be on time, well presented and a brand ambassador for Tesco.
- Minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week (minimum 12 available).
- Over 18 years old. (Mandatory for roles involving early morning or late night shifts or work in specific areas such as the website, bakery, or driving).
- Relevant experience in customer service, food handling or baking preferred but not required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, work in a fast‑paced environment, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- A positive attitude, flexibility and a willingness to learn and develop.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
