This is a full-time, on-site Salesperson role based at The Timber Group branch in Maidstone. The Salesperson will engage with retail, trade, and construction customers, providing product advice, preparing quotations, and processing orders in person, by phone, and online. Daily responsibilities include understanding customer requirements, recommending appropriate timber and sheet materials, and promoting value-added services such as cutting, delivery, and click & collect.
The role involves maintaining accurate sales records, following up on enquiries, and working closely with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure timely fulfillment of orders. The Salesperson will also support merchandising, maintain a well-presented sales area, and contribute to achieving branch sales targets while delivering consistent, professional customer service.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate clearly with a wide range of customers.
- Sales and negotiation skills, including experience in consultative selling, upselling, and closing deals in a retail or trade environment.
- Basic product knowledge or willingness to learn about timber, sheet materials, and construction-related products, with an interest in DIY or building projects.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple enquiries, process orders accurately, and meet deadlines and sales targets.
- Numeracy and IT skills, including comfort with point-of-sale systems, email, and basic office software for quotations and order documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a branch team, support colleagues, and coordinate with logistics and operations for smooth customer delivery.
- Previous experience in builders’ merchants, timber, construction supplies, or related industries is beneficial but not essential.
