Overview
Join the Preschool Teacher role at YMCA of Southern Maine - Casco Bay
.
Under the Program Director, the Preschool Teacher leads, manages, and supervises classroom operations.
Hours are 8am - 1pm with occasional afternoon hours.
Responsibilities- Swimming with the children is required.
- Plan, implement, and participate in programs in accordance with YMCA policies and philosophy.
- Create an age‑appropriate curriculum that encourages all development areas: physical, emotional, social, cognitive, etc.
- Complete incident and behavioral reports; provide daily feedback and review with parents as required.
- Maintain student profiles and observations regularly.
- Ensure classroom meets all licensing standards in conjunction with the Supervisor.
- Notify Supervisor immediately of any problems or concerns.
- Follow all HEPA and 5‑2‑1‑0 “Let’s Go” guidelines for Healthy Living operation.
- Enforce all safety rules and maintain a safe classroom environment.
- Keep the classroom and facility clean, organized, and orderly.
- Provide age‑appropriate materials and rotate quarterly where applicable.
- Continually evaluate and adjust to children’s needs.
- Complete all work timely, thoroughly, and satisfactorily.
- Attend required training and meetings, including monthly staff meetings and training hours as determined by supervisor and DHHS/Accreditation Standards.
- Engage with branch and association leadership teams to plan and implement annual campaign and association special events, supporting donor relationships and fundraising.
- Adhere to all Y Brand guidelines and receive prior approval for Y related social media use from Marketing.
- Learn and actively utilize UKG Employee Portal consistently.
- Other duties as required.
- Effective communication in person and on the phone with employees, members, parents, children, and school personnel.
- Customer‑service focus and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and within teams.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational, and decision‑making skills.
- Extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- Initiative and self‑motivation.
- Meet licensing standards for childcare centers.
- One year of experience working in an age‑appropriate childcare related position.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (within 3 months of hire).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Criminal background check required, including fingerprinting through OCFS, prior to hire; paid by the YMCA of Southern Maine.
- Strength: move, lift, pull, push objects up to 25 lbs.
- Manual Dexterity: operate listed equipment and perform simple tasks (typing, writing, filing).
- Coordination: hand‑eye tasks such as filing, stamping, posting, stocking.
- Mobility: sit prolonged periods, walk, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, bend, climb stairs; respond quickly to emergencies.
- Speech: articulate and communicate clearly when interacting with staff and others.
- Emotional Stability: handle stress from phones, tasks, noise, interruptions, and maintain a professional demeanor.
- Vision: read small print and adjust focus.
- Hearing: hear normal sounds, receive verbal instructions, answer a phone and communicate with background noise.
- Concentration: concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruption.
- Attention Span: attend to tasks up to 45 minutes at a time.
- Conceptualization: understand and relate to ideas, interpret instructions in writing or oral form.
- Memory: remember verbal and written tasks.

USD $18.00 - $20.00 /Hr.
