Overview
Sr Safety Specialist - Industrial Hygiene at ND Paper. The base pay range is $84,249.00/yr - $/yr. The actual pay will be based on skills, experience, location, and internal equity.
Job TitleSr. Safety Specialist – Industrial Hygiene
Responsibilities- Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
- Drive the implementation of a zero-injury culture, including safety programs, training for employees and contractors, and auditing program effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state occupational health and safety regulations.
- Engage in field safety assessments, conduct personal and area exposure monitoring, and analyze safety and loss issues including life safety and hazardous materials.
- Maintain confidentiality of personal and business information obtained during industrial hygiene activities, unless required by law or health and safety considerations.
- Establish safety policies and practices to ensure compliance with State, Federal, and ND Paper rules and regulations.
- Provide technical safety expertise to managers, supervisors, and employees, including program development, implementation, and execution.
- Engage with external safety and industrial hygiene consultants.
- Ensure proper safety equipment and instrumentation are obtained and accessible to employees.
- Keep Mill Safety Data Sheets current for mill process-generated chemicals.
- Conduct timely incident investigations and provide incident investigation training with mill management.
- Network with safety, environmental, and security experts across ND Paper and participate in cross-divisional meetings and teams.
- Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience, with a minimum of 1 year in Industrial Hygiene.
- Ability to plan, calibrate, set up, and operate air pumps and direct-reading air monitors.
- Experience with asbestos and lead awareness programs, including hazard recognition, employee training, and coordination of sampling or abatement activities.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure affecting safety of personnel or equipment.
- Ability to coach employees to meet safety, clean production, and sustainability objectives.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to formulate effective recommendations and communicate them to stakeholders verbally and in writing.
- Implement approved safety measures and ensure safety training in respiratory protection, confined space, and Hazard Communication is delivered to impacted personnel.
- Ability to handle multiple time-sensitive projects and issues.
