Hydro Technician – Androscoggin River;
Rumford, Maine

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Hydro Technician is required to conduct the safe, efficient and economical operation, monitoring and maintenance of Brookfield's hydroelectric generating stations. The Hydro Technician is responsible for hands‑on maintenance, repair and operation of turbine/generator systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of turbines and associated equipment at Hydro facilities;
  • Perform gate changes as instructed, and record and report gate changes once completed. During periods of significant run‑off, duties will include the close monitoring and reporting of conditions and instrument readings and related data collection;
  • Safely perform station and dam operations; start and stop units as required;
  • Perform routine maintenance on company machinery and equipment;
  • Identify and repair electrical and mechanical systems, including analytical problem solving/troubleshooting;
  • Work with project contractors to repair identified maintenance/operational problems to improve unit availability and station uptime;
  • Work and ensure that all work sites comply with the requirements of health, safety and environmental policies, rules, regulations, and laws; ensure compliance by personnel including fellow employees, contractors and other persons; and in the event of non‑compliance, initiate appropriate corrective action;
  • Monitor and report on equipment quality issues per factory requirements and company specifications from disassembly to commissioning;
  • Be available, for on‑call rotation as necessary, for after‑hours "call‑ins" and weekend work;
  • Perform routine road maintenance such as plowing;
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct;
  • Report real‑time generation data, scheduled and forced outages. Make real‑time changes to operational status as required;
Requirements
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative at remote locations including Berlin, NH area;
  • A self‑starter;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Strong ability to be self‑directed regarding learning and training;
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience with hydro dam and powerhouse operations is preferred;
  • Experience with the electrical repair and maintenance of hydro generator systems and related equipment is preferred as follows: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic as well as PLC programming (Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc) and perform related essential functions of the job;
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic and mechanical drawings and schematics;
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including MS Outlook and CAD;
  • Ability to work at heights and work in a variety of environments as required;
Qualifications
  • A Journeyman’s or Master Electrician's license is preferred;
  • Knowledge of hydro station regulatory compliance and knowledge of related mechanical and electrical OSHA safety standards;
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator systems and related electrical, mechanical, hydraulic equipment would be an asset;
  • High voltage transmission and distribution training and experience is preferred;
  • Industrial Electrical experience preferred;
  • Troubleshooting skills with industrial electrical equipment, PLC communication systems and protective relay systems preferred;
  • Must meet Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) requirements;

Pay Range: $29.06-$36.50 per hour
Target Bonus: 5%
