Job DescriptionWSP is currently searching for a Senior Geotechnical/Geological Engineer to join our New England practice. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Geotechnical Engineering Team as part of WSP’s Earth & Environment Group. The expectation for this full‑time role is that the candidate will work in the office either fully in‑person or on a hybrid in‑person and remote schedule.
Available office locations that allow collaboration with the Geotechnical Engineering Team include Merrimack, NH;
Eliot, ME;
Portland, ME;
Boston, MA;
Chelmsford, MA; or Worcester, MA.
This position will include opportunities to provide geotechnical engineering guidance and leadership for investigation, design, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks include contributing to a variety of projects such as foundations, soil & rock slopes, and retaining walls related to transportation (bridge and highway), pipelines, dams, mining, buildings, and private development projects.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated education, engineering, and project management experience in geotechnical & geologic projects with a focus on New England. This position provides an opportunity to join a fast‑paced team that provides solutions on geotechnical, geological, and civil engineering projects. The work entails a variety of office‑related tasks including engineering and project management and “hands‑on” field activities with a need to deliver and adhere to a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, accuracy, and functionality.
Impact
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross‑functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent geotechnical engineering projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑ and mid‑level geotechnical engineers.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input for project development, design, and construction.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil data, and reporting.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Prepare and review technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, clients, drillers, and laboratory staff, in a confident and professional manner.
- Remain current in latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5‑7 years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering and prior geotechnical design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or the ability to quickly obtain it.
