Systems Engineer, Network Engineer
Network Engineers are responsible for the infrastructure that connects users to Dropbox services. This network transits traffic for all tenants of serving infrastructure, including our in-house multi-exabyte storage system (Magic Pocket), large-scale databases, edge POP infrastructure, and all user-facing services.
As part of the Production Networking team, you will help manage global-scale network infrastructure while driving improvements in reliability and efficiency. You will play a key role in operating, validating, and evolving the network. Responsibilities include implementing global configuration and design changes, supporting upgrade initiatives, managing vendor escalations, and ensuring the operational integrity of production network.
Key Responsibilities
- Evolve the production network (AS19679) to support new and existing use cases that maximize product velocity
- Lead and execute infrastructure rollout efforts across global POPs, data centers, and the backbone network
- Manage vendor support cases (e.g., JTAC, Cisco TAC), ensuring timely resolution and clear documentation
- Operate a dedicated lab and test environment to validate hardware platforms, configurations, and automation tooling
- Develop and maintain practices to ensure network changes are testable and reproducible before production deployment
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support network scalability, compliance, and operational consistency
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a production network environment with a focus on operational execution
- Strong familiarity with network hardware/software platforms (e.g., Juniper, Cisco, Arista)
- Proficiency in core networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF/ISIS, and IPv4/IPv6
- Proven experience with network change operations and rollout procedures
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendor escalations and coordinate support resolution
- Solid understanding of large-scale network operations, including troubleshooting and lab/test validation workflows
Preferred Skills
- Strong organizational and execution skills with attention to detail in structured change workflows
- Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
- Scripting ability in Python or a similar language
- Familiarity with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, NAPALM)
- Experience with test-driven infrastructure or validation pipelines
