The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE2) is seeking an Assistant Director for Outreach & Academic Engagement to advance the Center's mission of supporting transformative research, learning, and community partnerships on race and ethnicity. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director will lead efforts to cultivate key external partnerships, internal campus outreach for center affiliates, and expand grant and funding initiatives by strengthening the Center’s visibility, collaborations, and programming.

The position will also play a lead role in managing the Center’s graduate fellows program and assist in the development of new research support activities for graduate and undergraduate students. They will plan and develop all of the center’s granting and funding opportunities. They will serve as a liaison with Corporate & Foundation Relations in University Advancement. They will coordinate grant writing, grant application, and grant administration processes for the Center.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, leader, and relationship-builder who excels at collaboration, communication, and translating academic work into meaningful community and campus engagement.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities:

Grant Funding/Development

  • This position will identify, define and develop grant funding sources to support CRE2 and its programming & activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Center and University Advancement and Foundation Relations, and as appropriate the Office of Sponsored Research Services.
  • Work with the CRE2 team as well as faculty affiliates and fundraising colleagues across campus to develop effective fundraising strategies that translate into successful proposals for the Center, its programs or initiatives, or related research projects.

Proposal Development

  • Develop and write grant proposals for federal, state, local, and private funding agencies.
  • Engage in qualification, strategy, relationship building, and proposal development for gifts or grants.
  • May include being the primary writer on a grant or gift.
  • Coordinate reporting and stewardship efforts for funded projects and donor relationships.
  • Contribute to strategic planning related to fundraising and partnership development.
  • Establish and measure key data points to assess the effectiveness of the Center’s outreach and revenue-generating initiatives.

Outreach Events

  • Lead the planning and execution of outreach and engagement initiatives that connect CRE2’s research and programs to campus and community audiences.
  • Help design and manage public events, symposia, and collaborations that highlight scholarship and creative work on race and ethnicity.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations that align with CRE2’s mission and values.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and the Senior Associate Director, develop and maintain marketing, communications, and promotional materials that amplify the Center’s programs and impact.
  • Represent CRE2 at community, campus, and national events to strengthen the Center’s profile and network of collaborators.
  • Create and maintain outreach and marketing materials, coordinate public outreach events, attend relevant outreach events.

Evaluation/Metrics

  • Lead the continuous improvement of CRE2’s graduate fellowship programs, including orientation, mentoring, and cohort development.
  • Support the planning and execution of internal engagement programs, including workshops, reading groups, and professional development activities.
  • Develop and oversee internal learning opportunities such as seminars and collaborative research discussions for fellows and affiliates.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate fellows’ work into the broader intellectual and programmatic life of the Center.
  • Working with the CRE2 faculty affiliate community, provide advising and support to graduate fellows, including professional development and engagement opportunities.
  • Help develop undergraduate programs for CRE
    2.

Special Projects

  • Complete special projects as directed by senior leadership.
