Seasonal Maintenance Worker – National Park Service
Apply for a seasonal maintenance position with the National Park Service. The typical seasonal period for these roles is April/May through October/November, though dates can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty is April/May 2026.
Duties- Perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, using a variety of trade practices.
- Provide general cleaning, ground maintenance, and repairs to the parks' grounds, buildings, and structures, ensuring efficient operation, maintenance, and caretaking of buildings and grounds intended for public and domestic use throughout the park.
- Offer custodial services, including cleaning sinks, toilets, sweeping and mopping floors, and maintaining adequate supplies of soap, towels, and toilet paper in public restrooms, picnic areas, and campgrounds.
- Acadia National Park – Bar Harbor, ME and Winter Harbor, ME – $22.42 – $26.16 per hour
- Cape Cod National Seashore – Wellfleet, MA – $25.73 – $30.02 per hour
- Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument – Patten, ME – $22.42 – $26.16 per hour
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
- Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Possess a valid State‑issued driver’s license; may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of duties. Photocopy of license and certified driving records must be provided annually.
- Wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
- Work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work as needed.
- Optional:
Government housing may be available. - Age requirements: 18 years or 16 years with specific education and employment conditions (high school completion, vocational training, or enrollment in a secondary school with work restrictions).
- Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision (screen out).
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, and technical practices.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments and tools.
- Knowledge of materials and ability to interpret instructions, specifications, including blueprints.

Volunteer Experience & EducationVolunteer work through programs such as Peace Corps, Ameri Corps, or other community organizations is valued and will be credited as qualifying experience.
No education substitution is allowed for wage grade (WG) positions.

Rehire EligibilityTemporary seasonal employees can maintain non‑competitive rehire eligibility if their combined temporary NTE hours remain below 1,040 within their service year. Exceeding this limit results in loss of rehire eligibility.
Employment TermsEmployment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
Physical DemandsWork from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms; may involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 40 lb.
Working ConditionsPerform work indoors and outdoors where dirt, spray, and fumes may be present. Inclement weather may occur, and protective equipment or clothing may be required.
