The Technical & Packaging Sales Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Packaging and Technical Sales. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing existing customer relationships, and growing profitable sales volumes within the technical and food packaging markets. The manager is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying effective customer management and new business development strategies, and for executing prospecting plans that turn potential clients into increased business.
NATUREAND SCOPE OF POSITION
The position is home‑based, does not include direct reports, and spans both existing account coverage and new client development. The manager sets sales targets, provides ongoing support to improve relationships, and works with sales, technical, product development, marketing, and operations teams.

WORKING CONDITIONSThe Sales Manager spends 50% of the time in the field.
SPECIFICACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prospect for potential new clients and transition opportunities into increased business.
- Cold‑call clients within a market or geographic area to build a robust pipeline.
- Identify decision makers and arrange meetings between client leaders and company principals.
- Plan sales pitches and collaborate with management to develop proposals that address client needs.
- Participate in pricing solutions and manage objections in a way that leads to positive outcomes.
- Present an image that mirrors the client’s professional standards.
- Proactively introduce new products and services to enhance existing relationships for retention.
- Coordinate with technical staff and colleagues to meet customer needs.
- Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
- Ensure accurate data entry and management in the company’s CRM or sales system.
- Forecast sales targets and ensure they are achieved.
- Work with customer service, marketing and demand planning to fulfill prerequisites in a timely manner (e.g., onboarding documents, credit forms, inventory programs).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in technical or packaging sales, or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Experience in forest products or business‑to‑business sales preferred.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and ).
- Ability to travel extensively as needed.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering sales results and rapidly expanding business.
- Comfort interacting with all levels of client organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to negotiate and manage channel conflict.
- Strong organizational, planning and problem‑solving skills.
- Capability to anticipate future trends and make proactive decisions.
- Ability to thrive in an unstructured environment and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
- Ability to work within a matrix organization and involve colleagues across functions and geography.
