Drives the Lifeworks van to transport individuals to and from home/worksites. Protects and enhances the rights of individuals in the program. Complies with all principles of Human Rights, D.P.P.C. and the Department of Developmental Services and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission regulations as adhered to by Lifeworks.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Other Duties May Be Assigned)- Drive Lifeworks van to transport individuals from homes to worksites. Operate the vehicle in a safe and legal manner, adhering to all laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in accordance with Lifeworks Policies and Procedures. Maintain vehicle safety and cleanliness. Report all vehicle and maintenance needs to supervisor or designee as soon as possible.
- Supervise and assure the safety of all individuals transported on their assigned vehicles.
- Report all concerns and/or issues regarding the individuals on vehicle to supervisor or designee as soon as possible.
- Ensure that all passengers utilize seat belts while being transported.
- Secure passengers' wheelchairs to safety restraints to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
- Submit all necessary written documentation in a timely and complete manner. Documents include, but are not limited to: weekly personal timesheet (using Payroll System), monthly vehicle maintenance report, monthly individual attendance report, and significant incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Assist passengers (as necessary) into and out of vehicle.
- Maintain effective communication with other staff, families, and residential staff of individuals being transported.
- Attend all transportation meetings and in‑service trainings necessary for the driver position. Adhere to Lifeworks Guidelines regarding time‑off notification and approval for overtime from supervisor or, in his/her absence, their designee.
- Other duties and/or assignments to work/program locations based on the needs of the company.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to individuals, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Vehicle And TravelRequires a legally insured and inspected automobile for use to be presented at work and available for use during working hours. If the program has an agency vehicle, staff are expected to drive it as needed.
Certificates, Licenses And RegistrationsValid and current driver’s license from the state of residency, CPR and First Aid Certification.
