Job Description:
Special Education Teacher
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, delivering high-quality instruction and support services in alignment with each student's individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:Provide both direct and indirect instructional support as outlined in each student’s IEP or 504 Plan within a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.
Develop and communicate clear, measurable objectives for all lessons and interventions.
Employ evidence-based special education strategies to enhance student development in areas including cognition, language, sensory-motor skills, memory, and social-emotional growth.
Deliver instruction in academic subjects using diverse, multi-sensory techniques (e.g., phonetics, repetition, visual and auditory supports) to accommodate varying learning styles and interests.
Establish and maintain classroom routines and behavioral expectations aligned with the school's behavior management plan.
Maintain accurate and timely service logs, data collection, and lesson documentation as required by district policy and state/federal regulations.
Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings for students on your caseload.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students on your caseload, including coordinating services and communication with families.
Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports for each student receiving special education services.
Collaborate regularly with general education teachers and related service providers during weekly team meetings to ensure coordinated support and accommodations.
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including parents, administrators, social workers, and specialists, to develop and implement IEPs that address each student’s academic, physical, and emotional needs.
Support the implementation and monitoring of accommodations during standardized testing.
Engage in ongoing professional development, curriculum meetings, and training opportunities to maintain and grow professional expertise.
Fulfill additional duties as assigned, including but not limited to administrative tasks and afternoon supervision.
Strong background and knowledge in Special Education principles and best practices
Valid SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement
Experience working with students with diverse learning needs
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed documentation
