We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader you will work in a fast‑paced retail environment where no day is the same. You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts and coordinating a team to keep the store clean, full and exceeding customer expectations. You will constantly look for ways to improve service through coaching and feedback, and you will be the store’s specialist in delivering practical actions for improvement.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
- Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring all decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and everyone’s safety.
- Serve as the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day‑to‑day operational queries.
- Support the Store Manager to coordinate seasonal, community and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere.
- Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented.
- Prioritise the replenishment of products that matter to customers.
- Ensure point‑of‑sale and shelf‑edge labels reflect what good looks like.
- Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent reoccurrence.
- Proactively manage queues to deliver a great shopping trip for customers.
- Coordinate colleagues, ensuring they deliver daily priorities and take breaks at the right time.
- Be knowledgeable about the store and coordinate others to implement improvements.
- Follow company health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same.
- Deliver communication to the team, keeping them well informed.
- Simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
- Always put the customer first and consider them in everything.
- Resolve customer queries promptly, leaving them satisfied.
- Adjust service levels to meet each customer’s needs.
- Recognise and celebrate colleagues who deliver great service.
- Identify and remove obstacles to delivering great service.
- Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager, or escalated them appropriately.
- Ensure the store is staffed appropriately, and actively find cover for short‑term absences or sickness.
- Act as a recognised Keyholder for the store and attend alarm call‑outs to ensure safety and security.
- Monitor and act on internal communications, ensuring messages are actioned promptly.
- Coordinate colleagues to meet customer needs and operational demands, feeding back to the Store Manager.
- Balance time across service and replenishment areas.
- Support the Store Manager in managing absence within the store, including return‑to‑work interviews and reporting absence triggers.
- Build meaningful relationships with Area Managers & People Partners, escalating relevant issues timely and seeking support when needed.
- If the store has a Post Office Local, perform day‑to‑day operations, including a required Post Office Financial and criminal conviction background check.
