Job SummaryWork in SBCP’s Asset Development Department to provide comprehensive financial counseling, coaching, and education with a focus on consumer goals of increased savings, reduced debt, improved credit, and access to capital/credit. The financial counselor will assist in recruiting and facilitating the wealth‑building programs across SBCP.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one‑on‑one financial counseling to customers, facilitating goal identification and achievement via in‑person or digital tools.
- Offer prompt, efficient, and friendly service with emphasis on problem‑solving and solution‑building.
- Analyze and assess customers’ current financial conditions and build outcomes‑based action plans.
- Maintain significant product knowledge for SBB and SBCP financial products.
- Assist customers in accessing SBCP and SBB financial products to further their financial goals.
- Conduct group learning sessions online and in‑person to empower customers with financial skills.
- Build relationships with the community to position SBCP for targeted customer attraction.
- Develop new clients and partners through active community outreach and awareness building.
- Employ business development techniques to grow an asset‑development customer base and lending products.
- Execute a reciprocal referral network with SBCP and SBB lenders.
- Use digital platforms to collect and track data, KPIs, and report metrics for strategic decision‑making.
- Assist with grant and certifier reporting as needed.
- Complete all required training and continuing education for certifications.
- Perform other related duties as required, including assistance with wealth‑building programs.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum of five years of experience in credit or financial counseling or a related field.
- HUD housing counselor certification required; must be obtained within six months of hire.
- Accredited Financial Counseling certification through the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education required or coursework must begin within 60 days of start date.
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and recall ability.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- High analytical ability.
- Strong customer‑relations skills.
- Ability to anticipate problems and use sound judgment and resourcefulness to resolve.
- Must be able to travel within markets and possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle with appropriate insurance.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, project‑management digital tools, and CRM systems.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
