Position: Teaching Fellow / Lecturer: Civil Engineering

Teaching Fellow / Lecturer:
Civil Engineering (Bahrain)

University of Strathclyde, Bahrain –

Work location:

Manama, Bahrain.

Who we are

Be part of a vibrant community that celebrates over 200 years of academic excellence, world‑class research, and impactful innovation. Located in the dynamic Bahrain Bay, the University of Strathclyde, Bahrain, offers the same high standards of academic excellence and pioneering research that our Glasgow campus is renowned for. We provide eight undergraduate programs in Engineering, Science and Business, with future phases set to expand our offerings in research and innovation.

Our

department

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is one of the largest and most successful civil and environmental engineering departments in the UK. It was ranked 1st in Scotland and 3rd in the UK in the Guardian Subject Rankings 2025. We educate over 1,000 students, including over 600 undergraduates in Glasgow, nearly 300 at our partner university in Yunnan, China, 100 taught postgraduates and almost 100 registered research students.

Civil and Environmental Engineering academics lead an active portfolio of research projects worth around £20M, funded by UKRI, NIHR, industry and others.

The opportunity

You will join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at a formative stage in the development of the University of Strathclyde’s Bahrain campus. This role will establish teaching provision and define academic culture on a new international campus, while working closely with and being supported by colleagues based in Glasgow.

You will deliver undergraduate teaching on the BEng Hons Civil Engineering programme, teaching modules aligned to key areas recognised in professional degree frameworks, supporting progression towards professional competency standards in disciplines such as structures, geotechnics, materials/environmental science, surveying, hydraulic and hydrology, and sustainable development.

Working as part of an integrated Bahrain‑Glasgow team, you will co‑develop teaching materials, assessment approaches and academic support. While you will have a clearly defined core teaching portfolio, there will be opportunities to contribute to related subject areas where this aligns with your expertise and interests, helping to lead the development of international degree programmes.

We are looking for someone motivated by the opportunity to help build a new campus, who enjoys working collaboratively, and who values high‑quality, inclusive engineering education.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including women, minorities and individuals with disabilities.

For full details, please see the full job advertisement. For informal enquiries about the post, contact Fiona Henriquez‑Mui, Head of Department, Civil & Environmental Engineering,

Closing Date: 21 June 2026.
