Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer provides full life‑cycle support to AWS data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
Responsibilities- Provide full life‑cycle support to AWS data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
- Serve as the go‑to engineering resource for the region, offering technical advice and subject‑matter expertise.
- Troubleshoot site equipment failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation.
- Support operational issues through ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
- Own conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add capacity, improve availability, enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Interface with data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health & safety teams to promote consistent and reliable services.
- Develop innovative solutions for AWS data centers.
- Work concurrently on projects, often across multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering audits with on‑site visits, producing risk reports with recommended mitigations.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC industry or data center mechanical engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng) or equivalent.
- Experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Strong engineering judgment with the ability to provide recommendations under uncertainty and ambiguity.
- Detail‑ and data‑oriented mindset.
- Proven problem‑solving skills using engineered solutions.
- Experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
- Ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders including Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Management, and Technical Program Management.
- Adaptability and willingness to work in the field to assess on‑site conditions.
- Enthusiasm for a mix of office and field work.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
- Proficiency with web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
- Experience with electrical system design and analysis.
