The role of the Mechanical Construction Engineer is to work as part of a multi‑discipline team in the preparation, planning, coordinating, supervising, and executing mechanical construction activities during the construction, installation, commissioning, and startup phases of facilities.
Job Accountabilities / Responsibilities- Supervise mechanical construction activities including:
- Piping installation
- Static equipment installation (vessels, tanks, heat exchangers)
- Rotating equipment installation (pumps, compressors, turbines)
- Structural and mechanical package installations
- Review construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical documents.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality, HSE, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as ASME, API, ASTM, and company (Bapco Upstream) specifications.
- Manage contractors and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Conduct site inspections and verify workmanship quality.
- Review and resolve technical queries, site issues, and non‑conformance reports (NCRs).
- Support mechanical testing activities including hydrotesting, flushing, leak testing, and pre‑commissioning activities.
- Ensure proper implementation of HSE requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
- Prepare progress reports, work packs, punch lists, and completion dossiers.
- Participate in mechanical completion, commissioning, startup, and handover activities.
- Participate in assigned Project Design, MOC, HAZOP, FAT & SATs and review engineering documents with input based on construction experience.
- Participate in field activities and walk‑downs to ensure systems are constructed as per approved design (when required).
- Attend MEI / PSSR walk‑downs and formally agree on categorizing punch‑list items (when required).
- Review technical bids submitted by consultants and equipment vendors.
- Complete all additional activities requested by the lead and head of department.
- HSE Responsibilities:
- Know company health, safety and environmental policies and ensure their implementation.
- Participate in HAZOP reviews and identify recommendations to ensure systems are safe for startup.
- Review and approve EPC/Construction RAMS documents and prepare RAMS for in‑house projects.
- Initiate permit‑to‑work (PTW) as Initiating Authority.
- Take action to correct or stop unsafe conditions and report incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety observations.
- Conduct all work activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Wear BU standard PPE at all times in the Bahrain Oil Field.
- Report a minimum of three safety observations per year.
