Job Purpose
The Intensivist is responsible for providing specialized medical care to medically complex, ventilator-dependent, and high-acuity patients within a Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Hospital. The role focuses on stabilization, ongoing critical care management, weaning, and supporting rehabilitation goals while ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Provide comprehensive critical care and intensivist services to patients in ICU, HDU, ventilator units, and step‑down rehabilitation settings.
- Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy care, sedation, and advanced airway management.
- Oversee medical stabilization, ventilator weaning, and transition of patients from acute to rehabilitation phases.
- Conduct daily patient reviews, adjust treatment plans, and coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage acute deteriorations and respond to medical emergencies within the facility.
- Ensure safe admission, transfer, and discharge planning in collaboration with referring acute hospitals.
- Work closely with rehabilitation physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and dietitians
. - Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care planning meetings, and family discussions.
- Provide clear communication to patients’ families regarding progress, goals of care, and long‑term outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in electronic medical records.
- Participate in audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support ethical decision‑making, including long‑term care planning and end‑of‑life discussions when appropriate.
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Postgraduate qualification or certification in Critical Care / Intensive Care Medicine

- Eligible for or holding a valid NHRA license to practice as an Intensivist in Bahrain.
- Minimum 4–6 years of experience in critical care or ICU settings.
- Experience in long‑term acute care, rehabilitation hospitals, or ventilator‑dependent patient management is highly desirable.
- GCC experience is an advantage.
