POSITION: Temporary Financial Specialist Salary/Hours

JOB SUMMARY

This temporary position is skilled work maintaining financial records and processing financial transactions. This position may need to receive, record, and deposit money; maintain records; and prepare reports as needed. This position performs work under the supervision of the Director of Finance. The duration of this assignment will be evaluated on a weekly basis, and it is dependent on the department’s needs and availability of funding.

REQUISITE

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED is required at a minimum. An associate’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in an accounting or budget office preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public school division service delivery, related laws and requirements, and relevant funding issues and concerns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, school and city personnel.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience with accounting/budget procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of Excel, Google sheets, use of personal computers, and the internet.
  • Experience using MS Office Professional Suite and financial accounting software preferred.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and follow complex instructions and to perform detailed work with accuracy.

    Experience balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to provide assistance to others within and outside of the department to support successful achievement of our mission.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Maintains complete bookkeeping system for program/school.
  • Maintains financial filing system.
  • Maintains and inputs data accurately into spreadsheets and the financial enterprise system.
  • Receives, records, and deposits all money.
  • Processes checks for program/school expenditures.
  • Creates financial reports for supervisor.
  • Prepares and routes purchase orders and vendor invoices for program/school to Accounts Payable.
  • Prepares financial statement and bank statement reconciliation for finance supervisor.
  • Communicates with department regarding departmental finances.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
  • use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
