Job Summary:
The Safety Attendant provides one-on-one observation of selected patients to identify behaviors potentially hazardous to self or others, in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The incumbent reports needs and concerns to a licensed nurse.
- Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
- Assists in room turnaround, including cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
- Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.
- Obtains and documents vital signs as prescribed.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members; communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, and providers.
- Resolves conflicts independently as appropriate.
- Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques and assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Administers medication as prescribed by the physician appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Adheres to safety measures and infection control guidelines; completes de-escalation/related training as required.
- The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
- Licensure: N/A
- Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing; knowledge of infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics; maintains standards per guidelines; completes a de-escalation class within 90 days of hire.
- Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Ability to work with elderly patients or act as a companion.

The job requires standing and walking continuously and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and legible writing. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
