Job Description:
Registered Nurse Floaters are responsible for providing continuous quality patient care in a variety of settings. The Float Pool RN is part of a resource team that is assigned to varying units during their shift to ensure that patient care needs are met.
Job Summary:
These RNs possess the skills, competency, and qualifications, as well as a requirement to work in several different clinical areas. This group shall be known as the Float Pool. These employees are a part of Patient Care Services. There are three RN teams in the float Pool, RN Team 1, Specialty Track/ CCU, RN Team 2, Inpatient Acute, and RN Team 3, Women's Services.
Patient Care:
- Acts with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system.
- Analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care.
- Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies.
- Prioritizes job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.
Communication:
- Consistently utilizes appropriate communication tools when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care.
- Communicates individualized plan of care to the patient and his/her chosen support system.
- Uses communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) to communicate more effectively.
- Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.
Teamwork:
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers to provide efficient treatment of patients.
- Develops team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback.
- Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate.
- Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively upon feedback from others.
Medical Knowledge:
- Demonstrates medical skills to provide required patient care.
- Operates various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, bedside commodes, etc.
- Provides routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, etc. for multiple patients in a timely manner.
- Assists in critical situations including administering CPR.
- Administers and evaluates medication therapies, performs patient transfers, and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred - BSN preferred.
- Team 1 (Specialty/CCU):
Minimum of 2 years in critical care or ED setting required. Team 2 (Inpatient Acute):
Minimum of1 year general medical surgical/telemetry experience required. Team 3 (Women's Services):
Minimum of 2 years in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, or NICU required. - Current compact RN licensure in applicable state required.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NVCI.
Physical Demands:
Medium to Heavy Physical Demand. The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs.
