Job SummaryThe Nurse Resident is a Registered Nurse who serves as a leader of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The RN resident accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Care:
- Collaborate with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system.
- Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care.
- Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies.
- Prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.
Communication:
- Communicate individualized plan of care to the patient and his/her chosen support system.
- Use communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) to communicate more effectively.
- Document appropriate information in a timely manner.
Teamwork:
- Develop team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback.
- Resolve conflicts independently, as appropriate.
- Accept responsibility for actions and respond positively upon feedback from others.
Medical Knowledge:
- Operate various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, bedside commodes, etc.
- Provide routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, etc., for multiple patients in a timely manner.
- Assist in critical situations including administering CPR.
- Administer and evaluate medication therapies, perform patient transfers, and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and successful completion of the NCLEX. 4‑Year/Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience: Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Current RN licensure in applicable state required.
Additional Skills/Requirements: Willingness to learn and demonstrate excellent customer service, verbal and non‑verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, and critical thinking and information technology skills.

Physical Demand Code: 20A, Nursing. Medium to Heavy Physical Demand. The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
