Job Summary: The Nurse Resident is a Registered Nurse (RN resident) who leads the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The RN resident accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and their support system.
• Analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies to progress the patient through their plan of care.
• Ensures completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies.
• Prioritizes job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels.
• Communicates individualized plan of care to the patient and his/her chosen support system.
• Uses SBARQ to communicate more effectively within the interdisciplinary team and when handing off patient care.
• Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.
• Develops team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback.
• Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate.
• Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively to feedback.
• Operates various equipment such as portable cardiac monitors and bedside commodes.
• Provides routine nursing care including starting IVs, performing dressing changes, and assisting in critical situations such as CPR.
• Administers medication therapies, performs patient transfers, and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and successful completion of the NCLEX. 4‑Year/Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Experience: Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
• Licensure: Current RN licensure in the applicable state required.
• Additional Skills/Requirements: Willingness to learn and demonstrate excellent customer service, verbal and non‑verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and information technology skills.
• Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A

Physical Demands: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand. Requires constant standing, frequent walking, bending/stooping, proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Must lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.

• May require the use of safety equipment, such as a HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
• On‑call responsibilities as directed.
• Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.
