Overview

• Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operate the vehicle within state/federal statutes and/or guidelines.
• Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public.
• Acquire pick-up tickets and complete the route in the most efficient manner.
• Load donations on the truck in an organized manner to maximize pickups per load and minimize damage/breakage.
• Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle’s oil, water, tires, and other items to maintain good operating condition.

• Knowledge of the assigned geographical area.
• Ability to organize pick-up tickets and schedule routes in a time- and fuel-saving manner.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities.
• Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required, and one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

• Valid State Driver’s License
• Valid DOT Medical Card
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License, desired but not required.

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public and to respond to inquiries and make entries on reports and records.
• Ability to work with a variety of personalities in a positive manner.
• Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.
• Ability to follow DOT regulations and safety standards.
• Moderate physical effort required: sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects (generally over 100 lbs.) 25-50% of work time.
• Work requires driving outdoors with exposure to weather changes and environmental conditions (rain, cold, snow, heat) and exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
