Sterile Processing Technician
Location:
MMH-71 Haynes Street (10627) – Hartford Health Care, Manchester, CT.
Responsible for decontamination, processing, assembling, and sterilizing instruments and equipment. Also responsible for disinfection and restocking of isolation, emergency carts, and other patient care equipment. Works within guidelines for infection control, JCAHO, OSHA, and AAMI to assure sterility of supplies and maintain necessary levels. Provides leadership and expertise to staff in absence of Management, communicating efficiently with staff and reporting to the Sterile Processing Manager.
Competencies- Must obtain mandatory CEUs to maintain certification currency.
- Advanced knowledge in sterile processing principles.
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Computer skills desirable.
- Read, write, and speak clearly in English.
- Deliver and document shift reports to all appropriate shift members and communicate with department supervisor as needed.
- Act as supervisor in absence of Management; contact appropriate departments and vendors.
- Assist with continuing education and growth within department; schedule and document knowledge assessments; develop and conduct in‑services.
- Unload soil lift and prepare soiled instrumentation for transport to Off‑Site Sterile Processing Center.
- Accurately inspect, assemble, and package items for sterilization; handle and inspect instruments to prevent damage.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certification in Sterile Processing from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., CBSPD, CRCST).
- Valid driver’s license with clean record and completion of a safe driving program (as required for the Fleet Vehicle Program).
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician I.
