Endoscopy Assistant

Location: MMH-71 Haynes Street (10627)

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Assistant prepares procedure rooms, manages equipment, and assists the Physician during endoscopic procedures. The assistant also provides patient care pre‑ and post‑procedure and helps maintain a safe and clean environment. This unit provides 24‑hour coverage; clinical cross‑campus on‑call is required Monday‑through‑Friday after 11:00 p.m. (2300 h) and weekends and holidays. Reports to the MMH Nurse Manager.

• Basic computer skills: usage of Microsoft Windows, WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK.
• Effective reading and communication in English.
• Reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; travel required to perform essential duties.

• Perform all aspects of patient care that promote safety and positive outcomes.
• Communicate any observed changes in patient status to the RN or LPN and notify appropriate licensed personnel when a patient complains of pain.
• Remain flexible, organized, and function effectively under stressful situations.
• Collaborate with the RN to accomplish efficient room turnover, including cleaning furniture and removing used equipment and supplies.
• Assist the Physician in all endoscopic procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment, positioning techniques, and GI anatomy.
• Participate in preparing, recovering, and discharging patients as directed by an RN, demonstrating proper cleaning techniques for each instrument and adhering to SGA and OSHA standards; test and troubleshoot equipment.

• High‑school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certification in Sterile Processing or Flexible Endoscopy Reprocessing from a nationally accredited central service organization (e.g., CBSPD or IAHCSMM) required within two years of hire (after January 2016).
• Annual completion of the required number of Continuing Education units (CEUs).
