Endoscopy Assistant
Location: MMH-71 Haynes Street (10627)
Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Assistant prepares procedure rooms, manages equipment, and assists the Physician during endoscopic procedures. The assistant also provides patient care pre‑ and post‑procedure and helps maintain a safe and clean environment. This unit provides 24‑hour coverage; clinical cross‑campus on‑call is required Monday‑through‑Friday after 11:00 p.m. (2300 h) and weekends and holidays. Reports to the MMH Nurse Manager.
Competencies- Basic computer skills: usage of Microsoft Windows, WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK.
- Effective reading and communication in English.
- Reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; travel required to perform essential duties.
- Perform all aspects of patient care that promote safety and positive outcomes.
- Communicate any observed changes in patient status to the RN or LPN and notify appropriate licensed personnel when a patient complains of pain.
- Remain flexible, organized, and function effectively under stressful situations.
- Collaborate with the RN to accomplish efficient room turnover, including cleaning furniture and removing used equipment and supplies.
- Assist the Physician in all endoscopic procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment, positioning techniques, and GI anatomy.
- Participate in preparing, recovering, and discharging patients as directed by an RN, demonstrating proper cleaning techniques for each instrument and adhering to SGA and OSHA standards; test and troubleshoot equipment.
- High‑school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certification in Sterile Processing or Flexible Endoscopy Reprocessing from a nationally accredited central service organization (e.g., CBSPD or IAHCSMM) required within two years of hire (after January 2016).
- Annual completion of the required number of Continuing Education units (CEUs).
This role supports 24‑hour coverage across MMH and RGH sites with on‑call requirements as specified. This position exemplifies Hartford Health Care’s commitment to patient safety and teamwork.
