Pediatrics - Critical Care - Physician at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital

The position is for a full‑time pediatric critical care physician providing clinical coverage in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and sedation services at a leading children’s hospital. The role involves clinical practice, academic teaching, research, and the development of post‑PICU follow‑up care programs. Candidates must be board‑certified or eligible in Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Cardiology, with significant experience in caring for critically ill children.

SLUCare Physician Group, a member of SSM Health, is seeking a full‑time pediatric critical care faculty member to join the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care Medicine at Saint Louis University and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. The successful candidate will provide clinical coverage in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Sedation Service at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Academic rank and appointment with Saint Louis University will be commensurate with experience.

We are especially interested in applicants who have an academic focus on pediatric critical care fellowship education and/or the potential to develop research‑based and clinical programs in post‑PICU follow‑up care. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of post‑fellowship experience or demonstrated cardiac experience. This position offers an excellent opportunity to combine clinical practice with academic pursuits in a collaborative and supportive environment.

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care consists of 10 full‑time faculty members and 5 acute care pediatric nurse practitioners delivering critical care services in a 21‑bed mixed medical/surgical/cardiac PICU. The PICU has approximately 1,000 annual admissions. Our CT Surgery and Cardiology program are nationally ranked and care for around 200 index surgeries per year. We have a robust ECMO program and a strong heart failure and transplant program, including all VAD capabilities.

SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and supports the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Center of Excellence at the Gold Level. The pediatric emergency room is the highest volume pediatric ED in the region and supports a dedicated pediatric and neonatal critical care transport service.

The hospital has been consistently ranked in pediatric subspecialties by U.S. News and World Report. The Division of Pediatric Critical Care supports programs in solid organ transplant, hematopoietic transplant, and renal failure support with an active CRRT program, neurocritical care, including epilepsy surgery, and advanced invasive and non‑invasive respiratory care, including oscillator ventilation, neutrally‑adjusted ventilator assist ventilation, and airway pressure release techniques.

The Division of Critical Care also provides procedural pediatric sedation services to approximately 1,800 children annually. Faculty members are actively involved in research, quality improvement, and medical education for students, residents, and pediatric critical care fellows.

We offer a competitive base salary, plus an incentive plan, and an exceptional benefits package. The institution is open to working with many types of foreign visa holders, as well as green card holders and U.S. citizens. Before the start of employment, qualified applicants must:

  • have a medical doctorate or equivalent,
  • be BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine,
  • be BC/BE in Pediatric Cardiology or have completed a 4th year specialized training in CICU,
  • be eligible for permanent medical licensure in the State of Missouri,
  • have cared for complex and critically ill infants, children, and adolescents during the past five years.

Located in St. Louis, MO, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is a not‑for‑profit ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the country. We care for children and teenagers of all ages, from the St. Louis surrounding area, Illinois, and across the country.
