Summary:
This role combines clinical emergency medicine practice with leadership in simulation-based medical education. The Assistant Dean of Simulation will develop, plan, and instruct simulation curricula while managing the Simulation Center operations. The position requires an MD or DO degree, board certification or eligibility, and experience in simulation education and administration.
Saint Louis University School of Medicine is recruiting an Assistant Dean of Simulation to enhance and develop simulation programming in the medical school program curriculum. This position will report to the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills and serve as a member of the medical school leadership team, particularly relating to Curricular Affairs. Additionally, it will be a key administrative position in the School of Medicine Simulation Center, a 4,000 square foot space under the directorship of the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills and supported by an education specialist and coordinator.
Key job functions will include School of Medicine simulation curriculum development and planning; direct simulation instruction and faculty development; and contribution to Simulation Center administrative processes. These job functions will require a deep understanding of the principles of simulation-based education, excellent facilitation and teaching skills, collaboration with educational stakeholders, and the ability to independently organize and manage projects.
The time requirements for this position are estimated at 0.3 FTE. The other 0.7 FTE will be working as an emergency medicine physician in the level 1 trauma center.
Minimum qualifications include the completion of a MD or DO degree. The individual should have board certification or eligibility in an appropriate medical specialty and good standing with relevant licensing and credential boards. Candidates with simulation fellowship training and/or three years of educational leadership in simulation-based education are strongly preferred.
Strategic and Curricular Planning- Serve as an advisor to the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills
- Serve as a simulation representative at School of Medicine curriculum meetings
- Identify avenues for simulation growth in the School of Medicine program, particularly in the Core Clinical (clerkship) and Pre‑Residency (post‑clerkship) phases of medical student education
- Collaborate with the Dean’s Office, educational faculty, curriculum committees, and other key stakeholders to revise and develop simulation curriculum aligned with programmatic needs
- Identify, develop, and allocate resources required to support simulation programming, such as facilitators, equipment, and staff
- Contribute to assessment and grading processes for medical students
- Act as a facilitator for existing School of Medicine simulation programming in the Foundations and Core Knowledge (pre‑clerkship) and Core Clinical (clerkship) phases of the School of Medicine program
- Revise, develop, and deliver training processes for instructional faculty
- Serve as a representative for new program development, within and external to the School of Medicine program
- Maintain and contribute to existing Simulation Center processes
- Contribute to key aspects of Simulation Center strategic planning, such as goal‑setting, budgeting, program outcome evaluation, and process review and revision
