Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
Purpose
The Manager, Property Accounting supports the Property and Fixed Asset Accounting functions for all of Liberty Utilities electric, gas and water/wastewater companies managed within the U.S. and Canadian East Region. This position plays a critical role in managing the fixed asset accounting month‑end closing processes, regulatory rate cases, data requests, and compliance reporting. The incumbent must thrive in a team‑oriented environment and ensure a high degree of accountability, visibility, and understanding of fixed asset accounting, reporting, and operational performance.
Accountabilities- Review month‑end accounting system processes for fixed asset accounting functions, oversee monthly variance analyses, regulatory and FP&A support, and interact with Operations and Engineering teams.
- Manage regulatory rate cases, data requests, and compliance reporting.
- Execute fixed asset accounting month‑end closing processes.
- Initiate and manage multiple projects, maintaining commitment to deadlines.
- Provide leadership to the Property Accounting Team; review work, give feedback, training, mentorship, and development of direct reports.
- Build and maintain strong relationships and effective communication with key stakeholders and functional partners.
- Deliver key performance measures and operational metrics to the leadership team.
- Apply high accountability and visibility to enhance operational performance.
- University – Bachelor degree or equivalent.
- CPA is considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of accounting, finance, and management accounting principles; U.S. public utility sector finance experience required.
- Ability to manage teams and ensure high performance in a continuous‑improvement environment.
- Highly effective communication skills for presentation, report creation, business correspondence, and regulator/management interactions.
- Strong business knowledge and proven ability to provide strategic solutions to complex problems.
- Project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of SAP S/4 HANA and Power Plan is desired.
- Ability to travel periodically.
