Chief of Community Care – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Position located at the VA Manchester - NH Medical Center. Full‑time, Board‑Certified Chief for the Office of Community Care (OCC) Program. Responsible for clinical‑administrative‑programmatic oversight, serving as a clinical resource on policies, procedures and issues. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of health care system‑network and national level initiatives. Reports to the Chief of Staff.

Pay Range

Base pay: $225,000 – $350,000 per year.

Summary

Full‑time, Board‑Certified medical doctor with administrative and clinical leadership experience in a health‑care setting. Provides clinical, administrative and programmatic oversight to the OCC program to improve health and wellbeing of military veterans.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an VA‑approved school.
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in a core specialty leading to board certification (ACGME or AOA). Residents currently enrolled in an accredited program are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under the stated conditions.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board certified in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or the American Heart Association BLS certification (preferred).
  • Extensive experience in administrative and clinical leadership with demonstrated management skills.
  • Ability to oversee clinical, administrative and programmatic aspects of the OCC.
  • Profound knowledge of the VA system, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Experience managing VA‑specific healthcare programs and ensuring compliance with national and network‑level initiatives.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary approach and coordination of care.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and customer‑oriented culture.
  • Human resources and team‑building skills, including hiring, training and professional development.
  • Strong communication and ability to build trust, psychological safety and continuous learning.

Physical Requirements

Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or more), reaching above shoulder, repeated bending. Incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable and capable of performing the duties.

Duties
  • Responsible for all aspects of patient care to improve health and wellbeing of military veterans.
  • Supervisory position: manage, design, direct and supervise the Manchester VAMC OCC program, supervising clinical and administrative staff and coordinating with other departments.
  • Interface with physicians, PAs and ARNPs in designing veterans’ treatment regimens.
  • Make decisions within scope and responsibility; decisions bind day‑to‑day operations.
  • Provide clinical care by reviewing outpatient care in community consults, collaborating with staff on coordination of care.
  • Exercise supervisory authority: work assignment, review, personnel management, pay, selection, performance evaluation, leave approval, training, career development.
  • Resolve informal complaints and grievances and administer progressive disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure implementation and operation of federal and VA policies, regulations and equal employment opportunity guidelines.
  • Coordinate with other units and organizations and advise medical‑center management on essential matters.
  • Maintain performance standards and rating techniques.
  • Promote team building and eliminate bottlenecks to production.
  • Report to the Chief of Staff on day‑to‑day operations, program administration and compliance with VISN‑wide policies.
  • Work schedule:

    Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
