US Latin Teacher

The Derryfield School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Latin teacher for grades 9-12.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in Latin and ancient cultures. The candidate must be able to teach Levels 2-4 of Latin and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, an innovative approach to teaching a world language in the 21st Century, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching Latin at the advanced level (i.e. college equivalent courses).

Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, program development, student advising, and tutoring.

The ideal candidate will be an educator with:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Latin or applicable Latin study.
• A commitment to the development of young people as individual learners
• Experience working with children (i.e. camps, coaching, clubs)
• Energy and interest to contribute to the school community in a variety of areas working. with students beyond the classroom (e.g. coaching, clubs, trips).
• A growth mindset and flexible nature to take on new challenges and adjust to feedback.
• Proven commitment to equity and the belonging of all community members.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues.

Essential duties include:

• Teach 3-4 classes of Latin
• Be an active member of the Language Department
• Advise 6-10 students
• Coach two seasons or the equivalent
