The State of New Hampshire, Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services has a full-time vacancy for Veterans Service Officer.

Summary:

To provide client advocacy support by interviewing, advising and assisting veterans, their spouses and/or survivors in presenting claims for the complete range of benefits to which they might be entitled under federal, state and local laws for the Division of Veterans Services (DVS).

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree and 2 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in case work, social work, human resources, interviewing, investigations, or related field.
  • Valid driver’s license or access to transportation
  • Successfully complete a State Police records check
  • Ability to travel to designated work sites, training, and outreach activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appointment consideration shall be given to qualified eligible veterans
  • Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefits Administration
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, administrative rules, and government regulations as applicable to client advocacy, claims development and benefit eligibility determination
  • Experience providing customer service with the public and interacting with veterans, and surviving family members
  • Experience in handling public speaking, complex claims and sensitive situations

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession and maintenance of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs accreditation within the first six months of employment and be eligible for renewal as a condition of employment
  • Must pass a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential used in the performance of assigned work duties within 12 months of hire and be eligible for renewal as a condition of employment
